Christina Thompson actually lives in the town next to us, and I've met her and talked with her about her book.
She is an American married to a Maori man from New Zealand, and attmepts in the book to find paralells in the contemporary relationship to the history of explorer's/conquerer's interaction with the native Maori people.
I have to say I liked the historical part better than the personal story.
Well...I am eating breakfast as I stroll through the blogs in my Google Reader, and I just added this to my wish list!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you find these things? And glad I hadn't started breakfast yet either.
ReplyDeletePssst, come over to my side of the pond. The volcano of honey quote has made it to LJ's weepingcock. lol.
My stomach is grumbling, so your timing is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get tickets to that place? . . . I may have some birthday presents to give out.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a Captain Cook sort of tale (and what an appropriate name he had under the circumstances, wouldn't you say?)
ReplyDeleteIt has a catchy little title, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a warm welcome!
ReplyDeleteNote to self: don't go to New Zealand.
ReplyDeleteI remember seing this book somewhere and wanting to read it :)
ReplyDeleteLooks really good.
